The Rinnai LS 1000 Burn Media swaps the traditional logs for a sleek burn-media bed, so instead of a rustic look you get something more minimal and architectural, the kind of fire that finishes off a modern room rather than harking back to an old one. A full metre wide, it's got real presence, and plenty of heat to back up the good looks.

That heat runs up to 8.0 kW, well suited to open-plan living and larger areas, warming up to 68m² in very cold conditions, 80m² in cold, 108m² in cool and 124m² in milder weather. It's efficient with it, carrying a 5 star efficiency rating to keep the running costs sensible through winter. (Output and star rating can vary depending on flue and gas type.)

The build-in details: it needs a cavity of 745mm high x 1435mm wide x 425mm deep (minimum), with a visual opening of 1000mm wide and 280mm high. Finished in Black. Gas input runs 14 MJ/h on low to 35 MJ/h on high. An optional 50mm trim is available separately to finish the surround.
