Jayden's been on the Egg again over the weekend, and this time he's come back with a sauce we had to share.
Two cans of Dr Pepper, brown sugar, and a proper smoky BBQ base — cooked down slow until it's sticky, sweet, and exactly the kind of glaze that makes ribs disappear off the plate. It's the sort of recipe that looks a bit unusual on paper and then quietly becomes the one you make every weekend.
Here's how it goes.
Ingredients
- 2 cans of Dr Pepper
- 2 cups smoky BBQ sauce
- 1¼ cups brown sugar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tbsp Suckle Busters Meat Candy rub
- 1 tbsp coarse black pepper
- 1 tbsp paprika
Method
Combine everything in a saucepan. Bring it to a boil, then drop the heat right down and let it simmer for 25 to 30 minutes.
One important note from Jayden: keep stirring. If you turn your back on it, it'll turn to toffee on you and you'll be scraping the bottom of the pan wondering where it all went wrong. Constant, gentle stirring keeps it silky and sticky.
Once it's reduced down and coating the back of a spoon, you're done.
How to use it
Brush it on ribs as a glaze for the last 15 minutes of the cook. Use it as a dipping sauce for brisket, pulled pork, or wings. Or take Jayden's personal recommendation and pair it with homemade shotgun shells — smoked, bacon-wrapped, cheesy manicotti tubes stuffed with sausage. If that sentence doesn't make sense yet, click through here for the shotgun shells recipe and you'll understand pretty quickly.
